This Week’s Featured Cocktail: Cowboy Jack’s Margarita

The margarita is a great equalizing drink. It’s a drink for every occasion and for every type of person. The drink itself is classic and sophisticated, not unlike the Manhattan. However, the margarita is also a great selection for everyday situations. It’s a classic drink but it moves away from the bitter or sharper flavors found in spirits like vermouth and gin, and towards the sweeter, more modern trends. Because of this, it is often labeled as a so-called “girly drink.” Yet, It’s also the cocktail of the cowboy, a fact that makes it rugged and tough with the potent kick of tequila. In short, a margarita is for every occasion whether you are at a dance club, a snoody restaurant, a tiki bar on some exotic beach, a saloon, or just at home watching a movie.
That being said, however, if you are going to do a margarita it should be done right. There are a lot of store bought drink mixes out there and substandard ingredients. Do yourself a favor: make it fresh with high quality ingredients. The following margarita recipe was made famous by one Jack Hamm of Colorado, a cowboy through and through who devoted his retirement to finding the best ingredients in the most precise ratios to create the perfect margarita.
Cowboy Jack’s Margarita
• 1 ½ oz. Cabo Wabo tequila
• 1 oz. agave nectar
• 2 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice
If desired, coat the rim of a margarita glass with salt. Blend all ingredients with ice or, if you prefer, use a shaker and serve on the rocks. It’s a very simple drink to make, but it’s important to stick with fresh, high quality ingredients.
