Jelena Kostic – An Incredible Beauty With A Big Heart

Jelena, so happy we could feature you in Muze Magazine. We’ve been fans of yours from afar. So where are you from originally and how do you like Chicago and the lifestyle there?
I’m originally from Montenegro. Chicago is home to me now. I grew up here and honestly, its the best place to live!

When did you move to the US from Montenegro?
I was four years old when my family and I moved to Chicago.

I’m guessing not many of our readers know where Montenegro is. Let’s educate them! It’s a small country next to Serbia on the Adriatic Sea correct? Tell us just a little more.
It is a small country that used to be a part of Serbia. A few years ago, it split from Serbia and is now its own independent country. Montenegro is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and I’m not exaggerating! It is definitely a place everyone should visit. It is located in the southern part of the Mediterranean. The beaches are fascinating and so rich in culture. I love going back and visiting and am definitely very proud of where I’m from!

How did you get into modeling? What inspires you and keeps you going?
I got into modeling as a hobby, really. I believe that nothing is guaranteed except an education. I graduated from DePaul University in Chicago with a major in Political Science and a minor in Psychology. After I graduated, I took some time to continue modeling and have been successful! I think the best part about modeling is being able to put yourself in a different element. The girl you see in images looking sexy and provocative isn’t really me. I’m really this dorky, playful girl. I actually like boy shorts and big t-shirts. Sometimes, I’ll look at the final images and laugh at myself. Like, look at you looking all sexy, you’re such a dork.

So, I also see you are or were in Maxim Magazine’s Top 10 Hottest Hotties. OK that sounds flippin awesome. Is that still going on and what was that experience like? Totally curious.
Yes, I am in the TOP 10 for MAXIM’s Hometown Hotties competition. It is for the year 2011/2012. They will be choosing a new Top 10 around the end of the year, I believe. Top 10 was chosen based from tens of thousands of girls and I think they really made a great choice. The girls in TOP 10 with me are all gorgeous girls with great personalities. Just being associated with a brand like MAXIM is awesome. It is one of the top and best known magazines for men in the world. We’ve all had great opportunities with MAXIM and work for the magazine all the time. We can be found in every issue. People start recognizing you and you get this great fan base. Its really a great experience.

You have also spent a considerable about of time working and supporting charities, especially those fighting against child abuse. It’s so great that you are able to channel your notoriety in this wonderful way. What’s this experience been like? Any shout outs to charities or other individuals making a difference you’d like to make.
It is wonderful just being able to have people want to listen to you. As we know, people with a following make the greatest difference. I’ve worked with the Big Brothers Big Sisters volunteer organization in Chicago. Their mission is to pair up volunteers with children. The volunteers (big brothers and big sisters) help the children by impacting their lives in a positive way. They spend quality time with the children doing homework, activities, speaking to one another, etc. Actually, after spending a little over a year with the children, research found that they were less likely to start abusing drugs, alcohol, skipping classes, and being abusive. I am so grateful for this program because I saw the results first-hand and just how much these children need positive influences in their lives. I’ve also helped raise money for “Prevent Child Abuse America”. Their mission is to raise awareness, provide help, and prevent child abuse. Child abuse is one of the worst things that can happen to any child. No innocent child should ever have to live in an environment where they fear for their safety. Its so heartbreaking to know that this stuff really happens and its worse not doing anything about it.

On a lighter note, when you do need to step back and chill and relax how do you like to do that in Chi town? Where would we find Jelena on a Friday or Saturday night if she was out with friends?
I used to be a big party animal! If you knew me a few years ago, you’d find me in all the hottest nightclubs in Chicago every weekend. Now that I’m older and have more responsibilities, its different. I have more fun in “chill” spots. I like to go to restaurants. I absolutely love wine. I enjoy cafes and bars. I love spending time with my friends and family. I travel a lot so being home is rewarding. And if you are a stalker and really want to find me, go to the mall, haha. I’m obsessed with the latest trends and fashions and have absolutely no more space in my house for clothes and shoes!
