The Tom Collins was invented by Jerry Thomas in 1876. Jerry Thomas was an American bartender who is often referred to as the “father of American mixology”, so not only will you be drinking something delicious it also has a pedigree. A well made Collins almost tastes like a Mike’s Hard Lemonade, except neither awful nor meant for sorority girls.

2 oz. lemon juice
1 teaspoon sugar syrup
Soda water

Fill a highball glass with ice. Add gin, lemon juice and syrup. Top the glass of with soda water. Stir vigorously. A Collins is usually garnished with a lemon slice and a maraschino cherry.
The old fashioned is another vintage cocktail. References to the drink date as far back as the 1880’s. An old fashioned is a bourbon based drink, and a man can proudly order just about anything that calls for bourbon. The burn of the bourbon is offset nicely by the sugar and the Angostura bitters, perfect for those who disdain drinking liquor straight. If you won’t take our word for it, take Don Draper’s, as it is the favorite drink of Mad Men’s protagonist.
Ingredients
40 ml. Bourbon
1 sugar cube
2 dashes Angostura bitters
1 dash soda water
Directions
Place sugar cube in an lowball glass with the bitters and soda water. Muddle the cube until it has dissolved. Top the glass off with ice and add the bourbon. An Old Fashioned is usually garnished with an orange slice, a lemon twist and a couple of maraschino cherries.
The stinger is brandy-based perfection. The sweetness of the brandy plus the little bit of crème de menthe makes this drink taste like something from a soda fountain while making you look like one classy son of a bitch. In its heyday the drink was considered to be the ideal nightcap.

1 part white crème de menthe
Directions

There is much controversy surrounding who invented the Manhattan. We here at Muze do not care. We do care that it is delicious and that the dark hue of a Manhattan in a martini glass makes the drinker look classy and slightly mysterious. The drink’s rye whiskey base is perfectly balanced by the red vermouth. Next time your looking to impress, order this Gotham classic.
Directions
Combine all ingredients and stir over ice. Strain into a cold cocktail glass. Often adorned with a maraschino cherry.
The name confirms that this is a drink for real men. To the naked eye it looks like your holding a glass that contains nothing but Scotch and ice. Try not to look too smug when you order a Rusty Nail in between two frat guys ordering rum and cokes. The best part of the Rusty Nail is that while it makes you look like a seasoned drinker, the copious amounts of Drambuie would make it delicious to a teetotaler.
Ingredients
2 parts Scotch
1 part Drambuie
Directions
Fill a lowball glass with ice. Combine Scotch and Drambuie. Stir gently. Garnish with a twist of lemon.
