Lisa Opie – Model, Actress, Beautiful, Smart and Swimsuit Designer – That About Covers it

LISA REALLY WANTS YOU TO FOLLOW US ON TWITTER!

Lisa, tell us a little about this busy career. Only 21 and already pageants, higher education, and your own swimsuit line. WOW! Fill us in a little
I’m definitely busier than most 21 year olds! During the school year, I always take 18 credit hour semesters and I am highly involved in my community and extracurriculars. I hold leadership positions in VCU’s Student Government, my sorority, and I also founded my own organization at VCU for Japanese students. I’ve studied abroad twice, in Spain and Barbados, which is where I got my inspiration for my swimsuit line. The street I lived on when I lived in Barcelona was called Carrer de Vizcaya, so I decided to name my swimsuit line, Vizcaya Swimwear, after that because that’s where it all started. I started making my own swimsuits and modeling them and when my friends saw the photos, they asked if I could make some for them. Vizcaya Swimwear is now incorporated and is doing unbelievably well. In only 3 months, I have organized successful fashion shows in Miami, New York, and Atlanta, and I’m currently working out manufacturing deals to get them professionally manufactured! I’m addicted to pageants! I have held the titles of Miss Teen Williamsburg, Miss North Dakota, and Miss American Samoa. When I competed for Miss United States 2012, I placed fourth runner up!

So where did you grow and where are you settled in now?
I grew up everywhere. I was born in Denver, Colorado, but I have lived in California, Illinois, Texas, North Dakota, Virginia, Florida, Spain, Japan, and Barbados. I’m currently situated in Miami, FL but I have a feeling I’ll be moving again soon!

How was it growing up in North Dakota and gives us some comparisons between that lifestyle and South Florida
Oh my gosh. It’s completely different. I live in the middle of downtown Miami in a high rise, where I can walk downstairs and be in the middle of everything, plus the beach is 10 minutes away. In North Dakota, I lived on a farm in a place called Hope. There were about 15 students in my class, and my neighbors were a couple miles away! The winters are unbearably cold and there was definitely no beach! I still loved the people there and living there really taught me to appreciate the small things.

How to unwind from all your work? Do you head to the beach or take in the south Florida club and party scene?
I go to the gym, pool and the beach to take my mind off work. I also love going to small cafes and sitting outside with a drink or an espresso. I’m not a big fan of partying, I always have a good time when I go out but a lot of the fashion shows in Miami take place in nightclubs and lounges so I feel like I’m working when I’m out.

Any time for a personal life? Are you taken at the moment?
Yes, my boyfriend takes really good care of me! He is always supporting me and helping me achieve my goals. I think a lot of the things I have accomplished so far wouldn’t be possible without him!

Give us some first date advice. Let’s call it Lisa Opie’s first date advice!
